The call was raised by the District Chairperson Kibaale, Godfrey Muhonge Kasanga after the low turn up of farmers to benefit from the Micro-Scale Irrigation project or program that requires for co-funding to benefit from the program. He highlighted that currently the district has funds equivalent to over Ugx 900M which are likely to be returned back to the consolidated fund account after the closure of this financial year, an act that is hard to reverse.
It is from this that he said all government projects are meant to benefit its people and anyone who qualifies can not be denied the chance to benefit.
It was revealed by the Micro Scale Irrigation Project focal person at the district Fred Senyonjo that since the initiation of the project in the district only 6 farmers have fully installed the micro-scale irrigation equipment at their farms and they are operating well. Senyonjo noted that,16 farmers are done with measurements waiting to receive their machines for installation, 5 projects are in the process and more 4 are awaiting waiting for the engineers and contractors to start on their projects.
Muhonge has appealed to the public to embrace the project in order to improve on their farming practices and productivity.
