Uganda Land Commission has today launched the exercise of titling the land measuring upto 2 square miles in Nyamarunda Town Council, Kibaale district.

The entry meeting for the exercise was held today morning at Nyamarunda Town Council headquarters by the officials from Uganda Land Commission spearheaded by John Fisher Tom Kasenge and Christine Hellen, Amongin Aporu all commissioners from ULC and Denis Musinguzi the Principal Land Officer among others.

The meeting heard that the Government of Uganda through Uganda Land Commission in the year 2004 compensated the absentee landlord of Block 178 plot 1 Buyaga covering 5 villages of Kidindo, Kigunda, Nyamarunda, Nyanswiga and Kibeedi in Nyamarunda Town Council. It was said that the exercise will begin with surveying and opening land boundaries.

Addressing the residents, John Fisher Tom Kasenge the commissioner says in 1900 Buganda agreement, Baganda acquired free land in Bunyoro Kingdom in the areas Buyaga and Bugangaizi but however in 1967 there was a referendum and the land was returned back to Bunyoro as squatters. Since then they have been historical injustices on Bibanja holders and that government decided to allocate funds through Uganda Land Commission in order to compensate the absentee landlords.

Kasenge says the 2 square miles of land have been fully paid by the government and the process of surveying and opening of the land boundaries will be free but at the cost of government and this will be done through systematic land demarcation commending the political leaders of Bunyoro Sub region led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija for responding to the needs of their people.

Kasenge however noted there will be a reduction on pieces of land to the land owners bordering areas like roads, wetlands among others during the process of titling, therefore urging those with land wrangles to settle them immediately using adjudication committees.

He requested the community members to full participate in order to quicken the exercise as well as paying a stamp duty.

The relieved residents hailed the NRM government and political leaders for the support rendered to them regarding the land matter.
