RDC CAUTIONS THE YOUTH TO STAY IN SCHOOL
Godwin Angalia Kasigwa ththe e Resident District Commissioner Kibaale, has called for unity and cautioned leaders in Kibaale to stop the discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS and ensure they benefit from the different government programs more especially EMYOOGA, PDM, and YLP among others.
He made the remarks during the district's commemoration of World AIDS day under the theme ‘Ending inequalities among adolescent girls, young women and boys that was held at held at Kabasekende primary school playground in Kabasekende Sub County.
Godwin says that about 1.4 million Ugandans are living with HIV virus, hence cautioning the youth to prioritize education as the government is committed to end the new AIDS infections by 2030.
Doreen Gorreti Birungi the district AIDS focal person revealed that the prevalence rate for Kibaale currently stands at 4.3% with the total of 4,014 active clients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and that without statistics Mugarama Sub County is leading with high number of people infected with AIDS followed by Kabasekende and Matale.
In attendance were the development partners including Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) represented by Daniel Iguru and Baylor Uganda represented by Daniel Musasizi noting that they are implementing 95,95,95 strategy aiming at ending the infections in the district.
For persons living with HIV/AIDs, Marion Tweheyo and Peter Mukisa urged the residents to comply with the health worker' advice once they realize they have acquired the the virus and start on medication .
