By Muganzi Vincent Hundreds of people affected by heavy storms and hailstorms in Kibaale District can now give a sigh of relief after the Office of The Prime Minister delivered 20,000 kilograms of maize flour and 10,000 kilograms of beans to the district.

While receiving the relief items the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Caroline Kasaija extended her delight towards the selfless service the OPM has exhibited regularly to persons facing hard times in the Country. She further implored the area MPs for their endless generosity they employ when it comes to serving the electorates of Kibaale District. She said that after heavy storms and hailstorms destroyed crops and animals of residents majorly in Nyamarwa, Matale, Karama, Nyamarunda and Kyebando Sub Counties the Members of Parliament and District leadership acted promptly and assessed the impact of the disaster forcing them to seek for help from OPM.

Habib Abubakar the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Kibaale who also graced the function expressed his gratitude towards OPM for responding positively to support the affected residents, he however said without altering any guideline as reflected in the letter accompanying the relief items inspite of other Sub Counties affected, the food will go to the most vulnerable persons that include; child-headed families, households headed by widows, the sick, the old, households headed by persons living with HIV/AIDS and persons living with disability. He further stressed that the items are meant for Nyamarwa, Matale, Karama and Kyebando Sub Counties.

Representing the District Chairperson Gerald Bategeka Secretary for Education and Health challenged the village and Sub County authorities to exhibit transparency during distribution of the food. He tasked them to identify the real people as per the report and letter sent to OPM and as per the letter from OPM. ENDS/
